[am-l10n] Aspell & SCIM Updates

Selam All,

The Aspell ftp archive updated today with an Amharic package.  Just in case
you run into it I wanted to offer some explanation.  Firstly, I don't recommend
using it, you'll probably be disappointed unless you're working with very
simple docs.  What's online now is a snap shot of some proof-of-concept work
done back in July.  It was just enough to show that Aspell was capable of
working with Amharic.  The Aspell maintainer was very kind to update the
package's unicode support over the summer such that it could work with Ethiopic
script under Unicode.  Honestly he did some brilliant work.

There is still much work to do be done in the Amharic specific files which are
actually external to Aspell itself.  By the middle of '05 these files should
be in decent shape.  The Aspell maintainer *really* wanted to get an Amharic
package out and so I conceded to letting the proof-of-concept work go public.

Other news... in early October I received a letter from Joerg who had made
updates to his Amharic SCIM package, which I believe is now also included
with SUSE Linux:
