Selam all

The attached po file is a glossary that is considered the most basic
terms that are needed to be translated before starting translation on
Openoffice.org. (Being a complete office program openoffice probably has
the most complete terms with regard to user applications) These terms
are collected by translators for various languages (Zulu, Swahili,
Khmer...etc) languages like amhric that do not have a computer software
terms.

What I tried to emphasise in this translation is to make the terms
(especially the commands) to be gender and status neutral.

For example
"ውጣ(wuTa)" or "ይውጡ(yiwTu) is used for "close" or "exit" in most
translations. With regard to the language and cultural norms this
translations address only a certain section of the society. That is the
"male" or the elderly are addressed the "female" and those who are not
yet reached the age or status of "አንቱ" are not addressed, or we have to
address the female part of our society as "አንተ". (I know there is a
certain section of our people who "ወንዱንም ሴቱንም አንተ የሚሉ :-)".

Therefore I choose "ይውጣ". We can say the person who uses the computer
tells the computer what to do with the application.
Stop = ይቁም Instead of ቁም
go = ይሂድ Instead of ሂድ

though I have gone through them a couple of times there might some
mistakes. I cannot say I am entirely satisfied with the translations I
did. There is always this feeling that there is some thing missing or
some thing is there that should not be there. Therefore your suggestions
are greatly appreciated.

cheers
tegegne
