Tegegne,

This is a significant step forward! I look forward to looking over the
translations this weekend. I'm planning to work with OOo this year but
mostly for integratting an Amharic spelling checker, I'll find out how
to get the translations activated also.

The spelling resources for this effort are still coming together. Even
sooner Alemayehu is working on getting the vocabulary together from an
Amharic computer book. What I'd like to suggest is a course of action
where we:

  1) Review the translations we're responsible for with the new
vocabulary from the book. If we like the vocabulary, we use it,
and update the package. If not, we note the difference.

  2) Take the words from the OOo Glossary (after possible updates from
step 1) and add them to the developing Amharic Software Glossary.
Add other words people want to the ASG.

  3) Submit the ASG to the Amharic Language School at AAU for review.
We may give 2 or 3 choices for some words where we couldn't agree,
the Amharic experts would select the best and may tell us to change
others where we had only one word.

  4) Update the ASG with their comments.

  5) Update our translation packages with the revised ASG.

  6) Update our translation packages with the revised spelling db.

  7) Continue translating and adding to the ASG, every 6 months goto (3).

The main points here is using a 6 month cycle of working and revision,
also to start working with a team from AAU's Amharic department who
would review new vocabulary we send them twice a year. I need to make a
similar arrangement for the spelling database when I visit this year.
Perphaps Dr Solomon can approach the Amharic department before then about
the idea of forming a "translation review team". Dr Solomon, I can
discuss details of this with you offline if you are available to pursue it.

Translators, please offer some feedback if you think this can be a
working mode or if it needs adjustment.

thanks,

/Daniel
